Call for Community: Conference Advisory Committee

The 2nd annual Charting Our Future Learning Conference is scheduled for April 4-6, 2022, live and in-person at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center! Part leadership, part learning conference, we will again host a gathering of educators, system leaders, and community members to focus on disrupting historical oppression and creating a socially just future for Tacoma’s youth and young adults.

The Foundation for Tacoma Students is calling for community residents, parents, students, and partners to serve on our conference Community Advisory Committee. This committee will help inform the overall experience and content for this year’s conference, including suggestions for speakers, sessions, and entertainment.

We expect a schedule of up to five 1.5 hour committee meetings between mid-January to mid-March, leading up to our event in April (to be scheduled once committee members have been finalized). Attendance in at least 4 of 5 meetings is expected. We will honor your time and commitment in supporting our work through a modest volunteer engagement stipend of $500.

If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Elvin Bucu at ebucu@graduatetacoma.org. Please include the following in your message:

  • Name
  • Community role (parent, student, community partner, etc.)
  • Why you would like to participate
  • Any relevant background information related to learning conferences or professional development opportunities

We will accept requests for participation until Friday, January 28; committee spots will be limited so please respond as soon as you can!
