The Tacoma STEAM Network will be hosting a lunch and learn information session on Tuesday\, July 9th at noon. Please RSVP by Monday\, July 8th.  \nThe Career Connected Washington plan\, which builds the framework for a statewide career connected learning system\, was signed into law this past session. House Bill (HB) 2158 establishes a Career Connected Learning (CCL) cross-agency workgroup to continue the work of establishing and expanding CCL program statewide. \nHB 2158 also establishes competitive CCL grants\, in which program intermediaries can apply. A program intermediary is an organization that works with multiple employers\, labor partners\, and educational institutions (within K-12 and postsecondary) to: \n\n\nDevelop curricula for new and innovative programs\, and scale existing career awareness and exploration\, career preparation\, and endorsed career launch programs \n\n\nConvene industry and educators to define CCL opportunities and align on needs \n\n\nGenerate demand with young adults and families \n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:STEM Robotics Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:This summer for the first time MESA is offering a series of one-week summer camps for middle school students covering STEM topics\, such as Engineering\, Gaming\, Aeronautics and Robotics. The summer camp is designed to focus on four STEM topics and will be held in four different locations. Each camp will serve 25 students. Students will be allowed to participate in one camp only\, Monday through Friday\, with a topical field trip each Friday. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWho can attend: The camps are designed for middle school students. Students must be entering or attending middle school in the 2019/20 school year (ages 11-14). \nHow much will the camps cost: The camp is free and open to middle school students only. \nMESA STEM Summer Camp schedule is as follows:\nEach camp will be held 8:30 am – 12:30 pm\, with the exception of Camp 4 which is an evening camp and will be held 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm with a day field trip on Friday August 9th. Camps will include snacks. \n\nJuly 8th – 12th: Aeronautics\, Tacoma Community College\nJuly 22nd – 26th: Gaming\, Baker Middle School\nJuly 29th – August 2nd: Robotics\, Grey Middle School\nAugust 5th – 9th: Engineering\, Graduate Tacoma (Note: this is an evening camp and will be held 5:30 – 8:30 pm)\n\nHow to Apply: Each camp will be limited to 25 students and placement is offered on a first-come first served basis.
