Students (13-18) can \n\nLearn about the past\, present and future of aviation\nGet a behind-the-wings look at operations\nHear about various educational opportunities and careers in the industry\n\nThis FREE event is aimed at inspiring aviation dreams in the youth of Puget Sound communities. \nParticipants will be able to: \n\nTour Alaska Airlines jets and other aircraft\nLook into the wheel wells and engines with mechanics\nExplore the flight deck of a Boeing 737 with pilots\nFly a 737 simulator\nVisit the Alaska Airlines training facilities\nExplore the design of an airplane with Boeing engineers\nAttend a career presentation\nSee how a flight is planned\, scheduled and executed\nGlide down an evacuation slide\nAsk university and community college representatives about educational opportunities\nWatch the competition teams demonstrate their robots\nLearn about small aircraft and what it takes to pilot them\n\nThis program is not an open house or airshow. All students and adults who wish to attend must pre-register with your sponsored youth group. Restrictions on the number of adults attending with a group do exist. SUMMARY:Tacoma STEAM Apollo 50th Challenge Day
DESCRIPTION:  \nJuly 20\, 2019\, will mark the 50th Anniversary of the landing of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on the Moon in Apollo 11. NASA’s Northwest Earth and Space Sciences Pipeline (NESSP) in partnership with Graduate Tacoma’s STEAM Network\, MESA\, and UW Tacoma Math and Science Leadership Program will hold a 5th-12th grade student drone and robotic challenge to celebrate! This event challenges student teams to recreate the Apollo 11 moon landing using a drone and a LEGO Mindstorm robot. \nThe Apollo Next Giant Leap Student (ANGLeS) Challenge is a national challenge celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission by giving students the chance to recreate the landing using drones and robots\, focusing on making it accessible for underrepresented and underserved communities. \nOrganizations will run the Apollo Next Giant Leap Student Challenge locally to select a team to advance to the nearest regional challenge hub.
