Leandra Shelton (she/her) serves as the Expanded Learning and Community Engagement Manager at the Foundation for Tacoma Students. Joining the Foundation in March of 2020, Leandra brings a passion for advocating and supporting the goals and efforts of young people in our community.
Leandra’s role is to facilitate convenings and support the efforts of the Out of School and Summer Learning Network. Additionally, she acts as a facilitator and adult partner to the Mayor’s Youth Commission of Tacoma and will be leading efforts to connect and engage with families and local communities to support the Graduate Tacoma Movement.
Leandra comes from a blended family where she is a first generation American and college graduate. After earning a degree in Elementary Education, she found herself dedicated to teaching outside the traditional classroom. Her professional career in youth development has spanned over 10 years and includes working within nonprofits and local municipalities to develop, coordinate, and facilitate programs for youth ages 5 – 18. She believes that young people accomplish great things for themselves and their community when given the opportunity and that it is our responsibility to come together to remove barriers and oppressive systems in order to create equitable and just opportunities for current and future generations.
Leandra spends her free time with her partner, their daughter, and extended family. She enjoys getting outdoors, practicing yoga, and is currently working on creating a micro homestead.
