Tacoma Public School students are getting ready for another school year, and, needless to say, back-to-school shopping has taken on a whole different feeling. Normally a time to start fresh, get excited about seeing friends again, and organize all the supplies needed to start school strong, will instead be in preparation for virtual learning this September.
These are incredibly stressful times for thousands of parents and children. Whether you’re a working mom of a first-grader who is learning to use a keyboard for the first time or if you’re a teenager who has never had to rely so heavily on email. The challenge of showing up fresh and ready to start school increases even more for those who are at the will of a fragile economy.
We know that adults in our community are doing everything they can to ensure that the students in their lives feel excited and supported going into this new school year. That is why the Foundation for Tacoma Students is launching the Ready to Learn Fund to help relieve the burden on families for purchasing school supplies. In partnership with Tacoma Public Schools, these funds will be used to provide and distribute care packages that include the highlighters, notebooks, science kits, handheld dry-erase boards, counting cubes, and earbuds that students are seeing on their school supply lists.
A little goes a long way. Join the Graduate Tacoma movement by giving to the Ready to Learn Fund today, and help equip students with the supplies they need to fully engage with their virtual classrooms.
