The Tacoma Completes initiative and framework is focused on increasing postsecondary completion rates for Tacoma Public Schools graduates by working on systems-level changes with community partners. Launched in 2019 through a collaboration between the Foundation for Tacoma Students (FFTS) and Degrees of Change, Tacoma Completes has provided facilitation, convening, and valuable data about college completion through the Tacoma Completes Environmental Scan (BERK Consulting, 2019) and the Student Voice Research report (Degrees of Change, 2020).
To better support the continued evolution and growth of Tacoma Completes, the facilitation and leadership of the initiative has moved from Degrees of Change to FFTS as of July 1, 2021. We’re excited for this shift considering the natural alignment with the Graduate Tacoma 2030 goal for 70% postsecondary success. Degrees of Change continues to be a partner in the work and we thank them for their leadership in kicking-off the initiative.
This move to FFTS signals a great opportunity for the work of Graduate Tacoma as Tacoma Completes builds on strong partnerships with key institutions like Tacoma Community College and University of Washington Tacoma, and continues to expand into other areas that support meeting the 2030 goal. There is great potential for cross-sector alignment as we build an incubator that centers the voice of students and fosters collaboration to ensure the needed resources are in place so students can thrive in their postsecondary space.
